PRO CLINIC - Redpoint

Learn helpful tips and mental skills to climb harder

JC is the 3rd American female to climb 5.14b and the first American female to get a 5.14b first ascent. She sees herself as a redpoint/project climber, as opposed to an on-sight climber. She manages a busy lifestyle, works full time, raising four children while projecting / redpointing hard routes. Always motivated, JC believes that climbing is 90% mental. She has a wealth of knowledge with helpful tips, such as: starting a new project, working towards a goal, and achieving it. Her instruction will benefit climbers of all levels.

PRO CLINIC - Long Routes

Let Brad teach you to train for that Big Wall you've dreamed of

Brad Barlage (aka B-Rad) is a motivated normal working man who uses Momentum Indoor Climbing to accomplish his larger climbing goals. With ascents such as FFA of Sheer Lunacy, long free routes like Moonlight, Rainbow Wall, Half Dome, Astroman, a 12-hr Nose ascent, (and a dozen more big walls) he knows a thing or two. The goal of this clinic is to teach you tricks for effective training on a limited schedule, using his specific workouts for climbing long routes. Want to tick El Cap? Brad will show you how to train for it.

Youth Teams

Helping your kids excel in the sport they love

Youth Climbing Teams. Our climbing teams are a fun alternative to traditional sports; other than that, the team structure is very much like you might find in other kids’ sports: regular practices, skills instruction by qualified coaches, age-appropriate physical training and goal tracking are all integral parts of our two teams. The first practice is always free for interested families who just want to check it out.

-Momentum Climbing Team: ages 11- 18. Our competitive team travels to gyms throughout the “Big Sky” region, competing in ABS (American Bouldering Series) and SCS (Sport Climbing Series) competitions. This team also takes a minimum of 4 outdoor trips each year. These multi-day trips are fun for the camping alone, but are also a great way for the kids to apply their climbing skills to real rock, while gaining an appreciation and respect for the outdoors. Parents and other family members are always welcome on these outings; often, the parents end up doing as much climbing as the kids! See our team blog at: www.momentumclimbingteam.com for photos. 9 and 10 year olds may join the Momentum Climbing Team after completing prerequisites in Base Camp, or by “testing out” based on prior climbing experience.

Climbing Team practices are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6:30, with optional practices some Saturdays.

-Base Camp: ages 7-10.  Our non-competitive team is a great way for younger kids to experience the fun and excitement of rock climbing with others close to them in age and experience. Base Camp can be used as a way for inexperienced kids to prepare for the Momentum Climbing Team.

Base Camp practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6.

For more info on either team contact Team Manager Michelle Legg at 801-259-6456 or michelle@leggnet.com.

Personal Coaching

The focused attention you need

Climbers as a group are mostly self-taught, and uncoached. Discovering things on your own can be both memorable and rewarding, and climbing has always been an individual pursuit. However, if you’ve hit a plateau, one of the best ways past it is to work with a coach. Start with a skills evaluation to determine your “weakest link.” Then, you and your coach can work together for as many sessions as you wish to bring those weak areas up to par.

•Personal Coaching. Coaching sessions can be used to refine bouldering skills, learn better redpoint tactics, prepare for a competition, train for endurance or power- it’s up to you. Our coaches have seen it all- they can help you save time and energy, and reach your goals more quickly.

Coaching is offered in 60, 90 or 120 minutes.
Coaching Sessions are for one or two students.

Movement Class

Develop balance and technique to climb fluidly

Do you sometimes find yourself feeling backwards on handholds, or without a foothold to help you move? Ever feel out of balance or shaky as you make your way up the wall? Perhaps you have been climbing long enough to experience the frustration of a performance plateau? Stuck at 10d, 11d, or 12d? No matter what your level, we can find an instructor perfect for your needs, to help accelerate your progress.

•Basic Movement Class. Our Basic Movement instructors help newer climbers get feeling relaxed and balanced on the wall. It all starts with proper positioning, balance, sound footwork, and being “centered.”

•Advanced Movement Class. Our Advanced Movement instructors have been there before- stuck at a plateau and forced to deconstruct their own climbing- eliminating bad habits and adding in new techniques- in order to progress. In Advanced Movement, they will help you do the same.

Climbing Movement Classes are for one or two students.
We recommend taking these classes with a partner.
An instructor will contact you within 24 hours of purchase.

Crack Climbing Class

Unravel the mystery

My first crack climbing experiences in the mid eighties included being utterly denied (and permanently scarred) trying to climb Sinsemilla Crack in Little Cottonwood Canyon; being pumped out of my persona on a lie-back flash (I had no idea how to jam) of Super Crack at Indian Creek, and taking a dangerous fall close to the ground on Coyne Crack on the same trip. I have always been fascinated by the counter intuitive nature of crack climbing, and designed Momentum’s 13 cracks to help climbers unravel some of that mystery. Jeff Pedersen.

•Basic Crack Climbing Class.  This class will help you get your hands and feet working correctly in the cracks. We’ll start with taping; then you will learn how to do “perfect hands,” “wide hands,” and “thin hands.”

•Advanced Crack Climbing Class. Learn how to do thin-hands, fingers, wide fingers, ratchets, ring locks, hand stacks, “opposite order” footwork, changing corners- even “Leavittation” if you must know!

Crack Climbing Classes are for one or two students.

An instructor will contact you within 24 hours of purchase.

Lead Climbing Class

Learn to lead climb safely and effectively

Have you been at Momentum and watched in wonder as experienced lead climbers move confidently and skillfully up the huge curving walls? Ever seen a climber lunge for a hold, miss, and drop safely to the end of the rope, stopped softly by an experienced lead-belayer?  Momentum has 7,000 square feet of the best indoor lead climbing terrain in the world, just waiting for you. If you have been top-roping for long enough to get your skills up to 5.10, you should consider “going live.” The feeling you get being on the “sharp end” for the first time is one you’ll never forget. Our lead climbing instructors will help you learn to lead quickly and safely, with good habits you can apply to harder and harder routes as your skill grows.

•Lead Climbing Class.  In this class you will be coached on clipping, belaying, belayer positioning, rope management and safe leading practices. Our instructors will help you stay safe while you are leading, and show you how to give a safe “soft catch” belay to any partner you rope up with.

The Lead Climbing Class is for one or two students.
Save money and take the class with a friend.
An instructor will contact you within 24 hours of purchase.
